About Us
We help children and families affected by someone else’s substance misuse
Our Journey
Support for Families (S4F) began in Stirling in 1999, founded by a group of local mums who saw the urgent need for compassionate support for families facing substance use, trauma, and hardship. They launched the Stirling Family Support Service and a volunteer-run helpline - 19 voices strong - offering a listening ear and a lifeline to those in crisis.
That grassroots vision quickly grew. S4F played a pivotal role in developing and establishing Scotland’s first national helpline for families affected by drugs - an ambitious, collaborative effort that helped shape a nationwide culture of care and connection.
Today, S4F is a trauma-informed charity supporting hundreds of individuals and families each year. Our services have evolved, but our values remain constant.
As we prepare for the next chapter - developing a welcoming wellbeing hub that brings people together - we remain rooted in our founding values. From a handful of volunteers to a growing, dedicated team, our journey has always been powered by people - those who believe in change, stand with families, and help us build a more inclusive Stirling and beyond.
